To celebrate the history of downloading 3 million ninjala, all players will receive a free prize of 100 Jala (in-game currency ninjala).

Ninjala is now only available for Switch via the Nintendo eShop.

Ninjala’s own gameplay is centered on an eponymous tournament held by the World Ninja Association, which developed a gum that could be used to allow people with a ninja’s DNA to perform ninjutsu. The game focuses primarily on close combat using various types of weapons. The player can double jump and run along the walls to navigate the map. Matches can be played between up to eight players in teams or solo “Battle Royale”.
Bubbles can be blown to unleash ninjutsu abilities, such as launching them in the air or as a ranged attack, or as a condition of activating an aerial dash move. Their power can be increased by destroying drones which appear periodically on the map, allowing the player to create a larger melee weapon when fully charged. Players can also disguise themselves as props in the field. Points are scored primarily by knocking out opponents, and an “Ippon” bonus can be scored as part of a KO if players do so in combination with their abilities. Each match lasts four minutes and the player or team that scores the most points when the timer runs out wins.

GungHo Development CEO Kazuki Morishita explained that Ninjala was inspired by his childhood memories of ninjas and the sport of chanbara, having envisioned Ninjala as a mix of both. He stated that his main goal was to develop to create a multiplayer action game that both children and adults could enjoy. Takeshi Arakawa, who co-produced Dissidia Final Fantasy at Square Enix, is part of Ninjala’s development staff. For its opening, GungHo chose to mainly target Europe and North America to gauge their reaction before giving it a more prominent promotion in Japan. Ninjala was built using the Unreal Engine.

Originally announced to be released in 2023, GungHo announced on May 31, 2023 that Ninjala had been delayed to early 2023. In December 2023, GungHo president Kazuki Morishita stated that Ninjala was still on track for a Spring 2023 release, and that it would contain content that would “satisfying” for “experienced players”. Ninjala was originally set to release on May 27, 2023, but was delayed four weeks later to June 24 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
